The Dark Knight: Most Downloaded Movie in 2008

Warner Brothers’ movie entitled “The Dark Knight” has been considered as the most downloaded film in 2008, placing this on number one position among pirated movies (Internet-based).

This movie which has been a huge hit by the time it was introduced in theaters and has been considered as one of the best performing movies of all-time, outselling box-office hits including Spiderman 3, Pirate’s of the Caribbean, and Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

Some critics suggest that the movie’s high-success may partly be attributed to the late Heath Ledger who starred as Joker and died even before the film was introduced to the public.

According to a report conducted last week, the movie version of Christopher’s Nolan famous comic book has been downloaded more than a million in a short span of seven days.  Meanwhile, authorities have tried to curb this Internet-based piracy activity by arresting some illegal distributors (who seem to be considered as small fry and not key players).  And since this movie has been converted to various video formats, piracy may seem hard to restrain.

As piracy is becoming more rampant these days with the advent of Internet Technology and other electronic media, film producers are trying all the legal means to penalize unauthorized and illegal distributors.  But with the proliferation of BitTorrent sites, it may not be possible to overlook all its activities since the numbers of these sites are too many to handle.

Here is the list of the most illegally downloaded movies in 2008 (in its respective order): The Dark Knight, Traitor, Tropic Thunder, WALL-E, Step Brothers, Max Payne, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Taken, and Burn After Reading.
