Female Artists Express Support for File-Sharing, Advices Lily Allen

Popular female artists all over the world have expressed support to the use of peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing websites despite calls from anti-piracy various groups and fellow singer Lily Allen to crack down illegal music file downloaders in the Internet.

Top class female artists like Norah Jones, Shakira, and Nelly Furtado has expressed their opinion on the issue, saying that Allen should “embrace the inevitable.”

“With the current situation, I feel much closer to music fans and those who appreciate my music as well as those other artists,” Shakira commented when asked about Allen’s rant over illegal file-sharers online.

“What’s going on right now is democracy in the music industry. We should all remember that music is a gift for both artists and fans. That’s how it should be, a gift,” Shakira added.

Meanwhile, top songwriter and singer Norah Jones brushed aside Allen’s accusation that established artists have nothing to worry about the growing problem of illegal file-sharing since they can profit from concerts.

Jones conceded that she was in a better position than other smaller artists, adding that illegal file-sharing exempt no one. She stressed that she was just less concerned over the issue.

“If people want to hear my music, then I’m happy. I’m not saying that people should go and steal my music or my album. But I think it’s great that young people, who usually don’t have the money to buy records, can still listen to music and be educated about new things about the music and the industry,” Jones said.

“However, I also understand the predicament of the music industry and the young artists who can’t make more money that they expect. But at least they can tour around the world,” she added.

Meanwhile, Furtado said that dedication for music will always win despite issues of piracy over the Internet.

“If you love music, you’re going to make it anyway,” Furtado commented on Allen’s rant.

Meanwhile, music fans expressed disgrace to Allen, saying that she only wanted to make money out of music and have no concern on what music should be.

“In the end, it all boils down to one thing. Money. And Allen wants lots of it,” a music fan and a regular music file downloader said.
