Gaming piracy is increasing on the Internet despite the claims of Sony which stated that PSP piracy is on fast decline, according to the recent report released by BitTorrent trackers.

The result revealed that online piracy for PSP game titles was increasing for the past three months, stating one PSP game called Dissidia: Final Fantasy was even downloaded more than 200,000 times over five days.

The report also disclosed that Final Fantasy VII and GTA Vice City Stories were the two most pirated games in this year with over 650,000 and 550,000 illegal downloads respectively.

Last month, gaming giant claimed that piracy on its popular portable gaming console PSP is declining because of the public’s support and preference for genuine game software, adding that counterfeited materials are becoming less popular nowadays.

In an interview, Sony Computer Entertainment head of hardware marketing in US John Koller said that the company has seen a steep decline of online piracy for the past few months, adding that the company still considers that counterfeited games are still a big problem which must be immediately addressed.

Koller also said that they have been tracking the activities of forums websites which promote online piracy which allowed them to discover that less people were illegally downloading game titles for a past couple of months.

Some experts believed that the low sales of PSP games was directly linked to the prevalence of counterfeited titles adding that the memory card slot of its system can be easily installed with illegally downloaded games adding that despite Sony’s attempt to curb piracy by including multiple operating system and updates, piracy still finds its way to the handheld gaming console.
