BitTorrent can Solve Microsoft Windows 7’s Large Traffic: Experts

Filed Under (Hot Off The Press)

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer recently announced the release of its new operating system Windows 7 during the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In his opening speech, Ballmer said that this newest version of Windows will provide “simplicity, reliability, and speed”, encouraging people to download this software which is in beta (test) mode.

Despite its impressive features and performance, computer experts believe that the overwhelming traffic of Windows 7’s platform will make it hard for people to download this from their computers.

According to some programmers and experts, Microsoft’s servers can not support the increasing traffic, delaying the downloading process or even making the software unavailable to some places.

To answer this looming problem, experts believe that the only way to support such tremendous Internet traffic is by using BitTorrent protocol which is file-sharing program which works by transferring contents using networks of computers instead of relying to a single server.

The Window 7 uses a platform which has a speed capacity of 2.5 – 3.2GB, which is considered to be paltry compared to its large traffic caused by the increasing number of people downloading the new software.

How BitTorrent protocol works

The system works by sending contents to a person using large networks of computers instead of relying to a single server.  With this program, users can connect to trackers, which are websites that the nearest “peer” (computer), and receive “torrents” (files).

BitTorrent protocol greatly reduces “flash crowds” or large Internet traffic which often happens to one-server way.  Using this ingenuous file-sharing communication, websites can easily distribute various contents such as music, video, software, and online games.

Today, BitTorrent Inc., which is a company founded by this protocol’s creator Brahm Cohen, acquired licenses from music and video studios to legally distribute popular contents.
