Few years ago, when bittorrent was introduced to Internet users, the recording industry has immediately expressed its concern over this file-sharing protocol thinking that this might be used in piracy.
While it cannot be denied that bittorent is being used by some companies to illegally distribute copyrighted materials, communication experts believe that the record labels should have made efforts to utilized this protocol and make this work for its own advantage instead of implementing witch-hunt activities against file-sharers.
Today, the recording industry insists that Net neutrality should cover the issue of piracy, especially about the use of bittorrent program to distribute media contents including music, movie, video games, and software.
Net neutrality, or the practice of controlling the content of the Internet media, is now again under controversy. Since most people consider the computer as the freest media—since television, radio and print has been controlled by selected profit-oriented companies—,allowing it to be unfettered by law is the best thing for the government.
In the issue of Net neutrality, there is a growing concern over the alleged throttling activities of major Internet providers including Comcast and Cox. Since private companies and some consumer groups failed to influence lawmakers to pass a law that will control the Internet media, it made collusion with some ISPs for its vested interest.
According to supporters of Net neutrality, every information medium should be governed by law to make sure no one will abuse or exploit this new technology. On the contrary, some people believe the Internet should be let alone and allow to evolve on its own.
