US vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday warned the public of using pirated products, calling this as “pure theft” as these are stolen from artists and producers.
During a private event, Biden said that piracy targets “Americans which can lead to loss of income and loss of jobs, mentioning China as the number one violator of intellectual property laws as this country has been the source of pirated products including clothes, movies, bags, to electronic gadgets.
Meanwhile, the official lauded India for adopting a stricter law that will deter individuals or companies from committing piracy.
Copyright Czar
After few days of convicting The Pirate Bay founders in Sweden, President Barack Obama announced he will appoint a new copyright czar but did not say possible nominees for the position.
Meanwhile, some groups which opposes the copyright law, saying that advancement in the Internet technology such as the bittorrent protocol has changed the way people share digital file, has sent a letter to the President that urged to him to stop hiring a copyright czar.
Law makers Supporting Record Labels
Biden has been known as a staunch advocate of copyright law that he openly lauded the record industry in its effort in curbing piracy.
Meanwhile, the President also made it clear his stance over copyright issues. Just recently, he sided with the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) following its filing of lawsuit against an alleged pirate.
According to some experts, the Obama administration will have a more policy that will uphold the interests of the record industry and put stricter penalties to deter individuals and companies from stealing copyrighted materials.
